Celebrate Spring Break Week "Outdoors and Unplugged"!
St Joseph Center of Arkansas is excited to offer our third annual Junior Naturalist Camp. Campers will experience everything from frogs to rocks to animal tracks through interactive and fun hands-on learning. The camp will be held outdoors on St. Joseph Center's beautiful 63 acre urban farm and nature areas. (Indoors if needed for inclement weather). At the end of the week, campers will be presented with a certificate as a Junior Naturalist. The St. Joseph Center Junior Naturalist Camp is ideal for those with an interest in nature and the outdoors.
Will kids be in separate groups?
The maximum enrollment for camp is 25 spots. Age range for this camp are kids 7-10 years old. The entire camp will meet as a group for the actual presentations/demonstrations but we may decide to break up into smaller groups for specific activities.
Who are the instructors?
The Jr Naturalists Camp is being being coordinated by the Central Arkansas Master Naturalists (CAMN) (www.arkansasmasternaturalists.org or www.facebook.com/CAMNmasternaturalists). CAMN will work with outside instructors for this camp which include professionals and specialists from various fields of nature study (Arkansas Fish & Game, UALR, Arkansas State Parks, etc.)
Will kids bring a packed lunch?
All campers will need to bring a packed lunch each day along with a morning/afternoon snack and water bottle. We also recommend wearing sturdy shoes with long sleeves and long pants and bringing a hat/visor. Sunscreen is important! All belongings should be labeled.
What exactly kids will be doing?
Campers will be engaged in activities (talks, crafts, games, hikes, etc.) each day on multiple subjects. Topics include everything about nature from animals, birds, insects, amphibians, to habitats, geology, ecology, conservation and outdoor safety. The mission of the Jr Naturalist Camp is to get kids "UNplugged and OUTside" in order to learn, have fun, and gain a respect for nature and the great outdoors!
